Professional Cleanings & Exams
Beaverton, OR

We all know that brushing and flossing are essential to maintaining peak oral hygiene and having the best oral health. Here at Cristina Rust, DMD we also know how important it is to come in for regular professional cleanings as well. They do a lot to benefit your mouth, from preventing infection to noticing early signs of disease. It is very important to come into these appointments at least every six months to make sure that you are doing your mouth justice. Give us a call to set up your appointment today.

What is involved in a professional cleaning?

When you go in for your six-month checkup, our professionals and hygienists do a lot in a small amount of time. When you come in, for the very basics, we will start by removing plaque from your teeth and gums. This eliminates bad bacteria that can cause decay and infection in your teeth and the tissue surrounding them. This bacterium can even travel further and cause problems for the rest of your body. It is essential to keep your mouth as clear of disturbances as possible.

We will then move on to removing tartar from your teeth and gums. Tartar is a plaque that has hardened to the teeth and must be removed with specially designed tools. Some of the procedures for this include scraping and root planing. These eliminate more bacteria and further prevent gum disease and tooth decay. Finally, we will polish your teeth as well, leaving you feeling bright, fresh, and clean in a way that you cannot achieve to the same extent at home. This process removes stains from the surface of your teeth and can leave you walking out the door with a whiter smile as well.

Is cleaning the end of the process?

When you come in for your professional cleaning, we accompany the process with examinations and x-rays. Regular screenings can help us to help you prevent disease and infection and treating issues as they arise, nipping potential dangers in the bud. Using visual inspection and x-ray, we can detect decay or infection both on the surface and within your teeth. Visually, we can also examine your gums for disease, pockets, cysts, or tumors. Discoloration or substances growing on your gums, tongue, or cheeks can indicate infection or even cancer. We do cancer screenings at every exam, as it is essential that you catch that as soon as possible.

Cristina Rust, DMD will take good care of you when you come in for your six-month checkups, and we can also help you to formulate a routine outside of our office to leave you confident and strong in your smile and oral health. If you think that you may have a health issue, have stubborn plaque or tartar buildup, miss that fresh, clean feeling, come in to see us. If you haven’t been to a dentist for a while and want to make sure everything is as it should be, make sure you set up an appointment today, and we can help you stay at peak oral health.
